Brightly colored pages, witty dialogues and an adventurous story to keep one hooked to the ‘fantasy book’- comics, since ages have been popular with children. There are movies and merchandise that sell in the name of super heroes. However, comic characters do not only intrigue kids but also manage in captivating the intellectually matured ones as well. The madness has seized people of all ages so much so that they are willing to shed thousands of dollars to purchase a single copy of these evergreen comic creations. The part time hobby of little kids has become a new rage among the ‘elders’ who take pride in owning the original copy of the first issue of these legendary comic books. Spiderman, Superman, Batman have all been auctioned at obscenely high prices fetching amounts that a comic collector 2-3 years ago couldn’t have believed his collection could command!
The CGC Universal Grade issue of the comic book ‘Batman#1’ (CFC Grade 9.2) which appeared in the markets for the very first time in the year 1940 has been sold through the ‘Heritage Auctions Comic Market’ on behalf of a private comic collector for $850,000. That’s a whooping amount well deserved by this action hero. Much hype was created with the inception of this legendary comic series about an American millionaire (later billionaire) Bruce Wayne, who happened to witness the murder of his parents as a child and swore revenge on criminals. It is an oath he took in consonance with the greater ideal of justice.
Managing to generate a market so huge, ‘Batman’ is now an established phenomenon (at least in the media). For someone described as an ‘urban legend,’ the ‘caped crusader,’ the ‘dark knight,’ he surely does manage to stock up a fortune quite literally.
