China building an underground luxury hotel

Construction on the Interncontinental Shimao Shanghai Wonderland began last month and is expected to be completed early 2015. British engineering firm Atkins won the rights to design the extravagant hotel in Shanghai’s Songjiang District a few years back .

The 19-storey building will be grafted onto the side of a 100-meter pit with 16 floors burrowing down towards the deep quarry floor. The hotel will contain around 380 rooms and rates are expected to be around $320 per night. It even includes an underwater restaurant.
